Knee pain is a very common complaint. Our Frisco, TX, chiropractor care facility sees patients of all ages with varying knee problems. Treatment varies greatly due to the numerous causes of knee pain. Injury or medical conditions can cause this sometimes frustrating ailment.

What Causes Knee Pain?

Knee pain has many different causes, so it can be important to pinpoint what the cause is before treatment can be administered.

Knee Injury

Knee injuries affect the ligaments and tendons surrounding the knee joint. They can also affect the bones and cartilage making movement painful. ACL injuries are common sports injuries that lead to tearing in a ligament that goes from the shin to the thigh. A torn meniscus is also common and occurs when you twist your knee while bearing weight on it.

Mechanics

  • Knee Locking – Torn cartilage can flip inside the knee joint making you unable to straighten your knee.
  • Hip/Foot Pain – Generally pain in these areas can cause you to walk differently to relieve the pain, but this puts extra strain on the knee.
  • Loose Cartilage/Bone –  A piece of injured bone or cartilage could break off and become stuck in a portion of the joint.
  • Dislocated Knee Cap – The bone at the front of your knee can dislocate. If this is causing your knee pain, you will most likely be able to see the dislocation.

Arthritis

Arthritis can often cause crippling pain that is chronic or occurs suddenly. Some types of arthritis are temporary and due to infection while others are from wear and tear. Rheumatoid arthritis is actually an autoimmune disease that can affect any and all joints in the body.

Certain factors could make you more at risk for knee pain. Excess weight, your age, your gender and what sports you play can all put you at risk for conditions that affect the joints like the knee. Our Frisco chiropractors at Tieperman Health & Wellness can help you on your way to a full recovery from a knee injury or we can help you manage everyday pain from illnesses like arthritis.
