What Do Chiropractors Do?

Chiropractors Frisco TXThe majority of people believe that chiropractors only help patients with back issues; however, they do so much more! This article will explain in more detail what exactly our chiropractors do. The Tieperman Health & Wellness Center wants to ensure that our clients have a good understanding of what our chiropractors do and why they do it!

The Medical Definition

Chiropractors are medical professionals that specialize in the study of neuromuscular disorders. Along with this, they receive special training in manual adjustment techniques that help align the spine and eliminate misalignments that may be causing issues or pain in some regions of your body.

Why do chiropractors do what they do?

One of the chiropractor’s goals is to be the patient’s partner in healthcare. Chiropractors enjoy educating their patients on health and wellness to get them on the path to a healthy and better quality life. Along with that, chiropractic care helps reduce pain in a patient’s body and improve the body’s function and movement.

Connections in the Body

Chiropractors believe that any issue, whether structural or biochemical, in the spine will affect a patient’s nervous system as well. They believe that there is a connection between the two body systems, so when they provide treatment to the spine, it is expected that improvements will appear in the nerves as well if they’re experiencing pain or discomfort.

What do chiropractors do?

Back and neck pain are what people generally think of when they hear about chiropractors, but they do so much more! In their training, they learn to diagnose other problems and treat other pains such as migraines, headaches, sports injuries, auto accident injuries, and arthritis pain.

Besides manual adjustment techniques, many doctors use other methods like cold therapy, hot therapy, massage, physical therapy, and nutrition to treat patients’ pain and discomfort.

What can you expect?

There are three steps to a typical chiropractic appointment. The first is a consultation where the doctor will discuss your pain with you and get an idea of what kind of treatment you may need. Second, they will cover your case history with you, such as your dietary habits, previous procedures, and family health history. Third, the doctor will perform a physical examination to determine which areas of the spine are being affected and what treatment will work best for you. The examination could include a variety of different methods. Some examples are x-rays, neurologic assessments, and assessments that determine range of motion, muscular strength, and muscle tone.
